The Auckland metropolitan area is the largest and most populous urban area in the country with 1,354,900 residents. The city lies between the Hauraki Gulf of the Pacific Ocean to the east, and the Manukau Harbour to the south-west. No wonder, that Auckland is popularly known as the "City of Sails" because the harbour is often dotted with hundreds of yachts. The city center consists mainly of High Street, Queen Street and Victoria Street where stands Sky Tower - the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere, which is 328 m tall. Nearby is the historic suburb Parnell with beautiful colonial houses that dates from the European settlement of Auckland in 1841. Not far from the main streets is the Albert Park where you can relax and enjoy native trees and flowers. Worth visiting is definitely the Auckland War Memorial Museum - a large multi-exhibition museum, known for its impressive neo-classicist style.
Even if the 2010 Mercer Quality of Living Survey ranked Auckland 4th equal place in the world on its list, it is still "just a city". The main wonders of the New Zealand are outside.

Approximately 50 km north of Auckland is a settlement Puhoi. It was settled in 1863 by a group of German-speaking migrants from Staab in Bohemia, now a province of the Czech Republic. The migrants were allocated parcels of land by the colonial government. However, when the migrants arrived, the land was covered with deep forest, which they had to set about clearing before they could begin to use the land. So that from farmers they become lumberjacks. Few bulls helped them in their hard work in forest and those bulls' horns are now displayed in the Historic Puhoi Pub & Hotel.
