Photo gallery of Tasman and Nelson
Here we joined two regions together - bigger Tasman and smaller Nelson. Just on half-way from Nelson to Motueka lies the Rabbit Island, a popular beach resort. When continuing north, getting over Takaka Hill, Abel Tasman National Park cannot be missed out on a journey. It is very well known because of the Abel Tasman Coast Track which belongs to the most popular tramping track on New zealand, and it is one of the nine Great walks. The Tasman region contains also one of the less visited of New Zealand's major capes - Cape Farewell, due to its remote location, and also maybe remarkably miserable weather.Another must of this northern part of New Zealand is visiting and tramping in Nelson Lakes National Park, which is centered at two large lakes, Rotoiti and Rotoroa. There is a network of tramping tracks throughout the park. Tracks range from short nature walks at Lake Rotoiti and Lake Rotorua, to multi-day backcountry tramps. The most popular long-distance tramping routes are the Travers-Sabine Circuit and other loops through Lake Angelus.
Watch out sandflies here!
