Photo gallery of Hawke's Bay
The region is called by the Hawke Bay, a large semi-circular bay which extends for 100 kilometres from northeast to southwest from Mahia Peninsula to Cape Kidnappers. Hawke's Bay is renowned for its horticulture with large orchards and vineyards on the plains. Worth visiting is Napier, a popular tourist city, with a unique concentration of 1930s Art Deco architecture, and it is also home to the annual Mission Concert held early each year. Not far from here, just on the Cape Kidnappers is a large Australasian Gannet colony. The largest national park on the North Island - Te Urewera National Park covers the north east part of this region. In its heart lies Lake Waikaremoana, well known for the Lake Waikaremoana Track, one of New Zealand's "Great Walks". It is a three to four-day tramp which follows approximately half of the lake's circumference.
